Words of Praises for Ali Kantur by Mr. Houerou
Mr. Phillippe Le Houerou's (Vice President of The World Bank)Speech in The Investment Advisory Council (IAC)for Turkey, June 10th 2010;
"Last year I saw here in Turkey what innovation can achieve. At the Mamak waste processing site in Ankara, Mr. Ali Kantur adapted technologies creatively to turn garbage and bad smells into electricity and even tomatoes—plus profits and jobs! It is an example of how innovation can improve the environment, and be a source of economic growth."

Solution for Waste in Turkey
World Bank sees future in a dump
The notoriously foul Mamak landfill is now the source of heat and energy for greenhouses outside Ankara thanks to aid from the World Bank and a garbage-recycling station. If Turkey can focus on alternative energy sources, it could create more jobs, says a World Bank deputy chief.
One of the moft effective solutions for minimizing the volume of the waste to be stored is the production of energy and compost from biomass. With this method, the climate change effect of landfill areas is eliminated and the global CO2 reduction is promoted. Organic wastes such as vegetables, fruits and garden wastes which comprise 50% of domestic solid wastes are sorted in our plants and processed in anaerobic digesters where methane gas and high quality compost are produced under optimum conditions under which the digestion process is accelerated. The methane gas is stored in balloons after which it is transformed to electrical energy in motor/generator units. Compared to other systems in the world, the system in Mamak is distinguished in that it allows the treatment of mixed organic waste which is a sustainable solution for the waste characteristics of Turkey.
